Cast of Characters

ME! - J Smith, a grossly underpaid recent graduate of a state university struggling to support a student husband and herself.  Sarcastic with management but compassionate toward all people, including the rapists, murderers, thieves, and drug dealers/addicts confined in the prison.  A state employee who actually cares about quality work.

Mr. Sam - Practice manager, grossly overpaid and incompetent manager who had retired early several years before in order to come back to the practice to draw two paychecks.  Blinded by privilege and generally clueless.

Mr. Thomas - Administrative Associate (assistance manager), grossly overpaid, lazy, and incompetent.  Most remembered for playing favorites when it came to giving out undesirable assignments as well as vacation requests.

Ms. Stevens - colleague who trained me, former manager at a free world company in another state where she retired and moved due to a hurricane.  Kind, caring, and fun to be around.

Ms. Slope - unbalanced coworker who, while lazy, incompetent, and abusing prescription drugs, was still given a higher salary than me.

Dr. August - chief medical officer of the emergency room and facility.  Wry, sarcastic sense of humor.  A wonderful woman and physician who despite having financial privilege shared a similar world view and politics.

Ms. Cube - General Manager.  Energetic woman who made decisions and stuck by them, even if they were wrong.

Ms. Pierce - lazy Nurse Practitioner who generally did not want to work and had a bad attitude when required to do so.

Ms. North - gossip mongering, lying coworker.

Ms. Cook - funny, extremely hard working coworker.  Had a great smile and fantastic hair.

Mike - the love of my life, wonderful husband and at the time of the comic, full time student.

Ms. Moore - an Ike-displaced former employee hired to coordinate oncology services.

Ms. Vader - extremely rude and useless c*nt from HR.  (A little background, though I didn't realize it at the time, Ms. Vader plowed into my hooptie my first year in the town when I was a student at the University with her maroon SUV.  I, thankfully, had people in my car because when I spoke with my insurance company she had claimed that I pulled out in front of her which was not what happened at all.  It was a T - intersection and she was stopped at the stop sign when I approached on the main road and stopped in the turn lane to turn.  Before I could complete the turn, she plowed into my little car either thinking I was going faster than I was or miscalculated the turn entirely.  I had been stopped in the turn lane waiting for the oncoming traffic to clear when she hit us.  The insurance company, after speaking with the people in my car and getting surveillance video from a nearby store, ruled the accident in my favor.  She totaled my first car, a mustang I adored.  I realized she was the same bitch during the course of our meeting).

Ms. P - Administrative Associate utterly terrified to make a decision and have it come back on her so she often refused to make any decision at all.

Ms. Sutton - my replacement, had a great smile and wonderful dark, curly hair.

Ms. Barksdale - human development worker.

Ms. Wilma - conniving coworker at the new clinic who talked shit about everyone behind their backs but would smile to your face when you were around.

Ms. Peters - coworker who pushes scheduling off on me because she doesn't want to do anything anymore.  She develops health problems and later leaves.

Ricki - coworker at the new clinic who claims to be a christian but will fuck anyone with a pulse and a penis.  Holds a grudge and is fairly an idiot.

Dee - coworker at the new clinic under a lot of stress in her personal life.

Physician Assistant Asperger - state-employed Libertarian provider at the new clinic who delighted in torturing the patients and was a moral and physical lilliputian.  I nick-named him the lilliputian leprechaun.
